Text: Hosea 1:10-2:1 Date: 3-15-26
1. The nation will be boosted (v. 10a).
The day is coming when God will turn a nation of wickedness and hopelessness into a nation of belief and expectation.
2. The nation will believe (v. 10b).
The nation of Israel will have a renewal of the covenantal relationship between God and His people.
The promises of God are found in His sovereignty over His people and based in His unilateral covenant with them.
Question: What will the nation benefit from in the future? They will be restored into a relationship with the living God. This is amazing grace. Only the living God would and could make this happen. Do we not have the same relationship with the living God? How does this impact our lives? The presence of the living God sustains us in the troubled waters of life. The living God gives answers to difficult situations. The living God protects us throughout day and night. The living God holds us fast to the rock of Jesus Christ.
3. The nation will be brought together (v. 11a).
The nation will descend into the pit of harshness, but a day is coming where the nation in belief of their Messiah will ascend into the place of hope
4. The nation will be given a new boss (leadership) (v. 11b).
This leader will be none other than Jesus Christ, the son of David (Ezek. 37:22; “Isa. 9:6–7; Amos 9:11; Micah 5:2). The promise to David of an everlasting throne will be fulfilled (cf. 2 Sam. 7:11b–16)”.
5. The nation will be given a new birth name (2:1).
God demonstrates the hope and help of His people through Him alone. God promises to keep His word. God shows that punishment will be turned into promise. God’ people will be blessed.
Conclusion
The nation will be boosted. The nation will believe. The nation will be brought together. The nation will be given a new boss and leadership. The nation will be given a new birth name. Just as a foster child who has lived a life believing they don’t belong to a family and then is adopted and his/her name is changed, so God will not just remove His judgment, but He will restore His people’s name and their identity as His own. Those who were once called not my people are called the sons of the living God. Fulfilled promises based on the character of God! What else do we need?!
